The constant attacks on human rights in the 21st century happen near and far from each one of us. Every day. Sometimes it seems that the barbarity continues, with old and new appearance. Old evidence and new sophistication. The gravity of the situation justifies the call: to the weapons, cartoonists! The same is to say: to the pencils and brushes, artists of humour! We can also fight the war with the art of universal humour. The cartoons can be effective tools in the fight for a more just society and respectful of human rights throughout the world. Participating in PortoCartoon 2008 is also to pay tribute to all those who over the centuries have fought for freedom and equal rights. After so many declarations, laws and promises violated, we need to hear the cry of humour and cartoonists! Join the alert from PortoCartoon 2008. Caro cartunista,

Os constantes atentados aos direitos humanos em pleno Séc. XXI acontecem perto e longe de cada um de nós. Todos os dias.
Por vezes, parece que a barbárie continua, com velhas e novas roupagens. Velhas evidências e novas sofisticações.
A gravidade da situação justifica o apelo, o grito: às armas, cartunistas!!! O mesmo é dizer: aos lápis e pincéis, artistas do humor!!
A guerra também se combate com a arte universal do humor.
Os cartoons podem ser instrumentos eficazes na luta por uma sociedade mais justa e respeitadora dos direitos humanos, em todo o mundo.
Participar no PortoCartoon 2008 é também homenagear todos aqueles que ao longo dos séculos têm lutado pela liberdade e igualdade de direitos.
Depois de tantas declarações, leis e promessas violadas, é preciso fazer ouvir o grito do humor e dos cartunistas!!!
